About Us

La Salsa Dance school is situated in Durbanville and Table View (close to Cape Town), with classes on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursday evenings (see class schedule).

Venue/Location

Durbanville: Kenridge Primary School in Van Riebeeck Avenue, Kenridge, Durbanville. (1 km from Tygervalley Centre) We are in the small building/hall with it's own parking area to the north of the Main entrance to the school. Map with directions to La Salsa.
Table View: Bloubergridge Primary, Wessels Street, Blouberg
Stellenbosch: Slaley Wine Estate where the Kromme Rhee road T's with the R44

Dress Code

Presentably casual with preferably leather sole shoes. No small heeled shoes please - Click to read more on shoes.

Course fees for 2012

R500 (a course consists of 10 x 1 hour classes which is held once a week, with class 10 being a party in Durbanville)

Instructors: Andre Jordaan, Jean-Pierre (JP) & Chantelle and in Durbanville, Laetitia Schreuder in Table View and Berlise and John Louwrens in Stellenbosch. Jonel en Francois Kritzinger will join us again this year in presenting classes and acts as performers.

Class Program

Each class consist out of two parts - line dancing and dancing with a partner. During the line dancing, students practice the movements without the complication of a partner. These moves are then practiced with a partner during the second half of the class.

Philosophy:

La Salsa's teaching philosophy is not about winning medals, earning certificates or competing in competitions. It is many things of which the following are but a few:

Learning how to salsa, with good technique and style (and baffling cool moves of course).
Having fun
Getting people away from their day to day stressed and routine lives.
Expanding people's boundaries
To meet new and interesting people
And once again - having fun.

Dance Styles: Salsa (which is a combination of Son/Songuano and Mambo) and Merengue. This whole area of dancing is sometimes referred to as Latin Jazz. In stead of teaching student many different dance styles, focus is given to Salsa, since proper depth in one area can have any student use these same "moves" in other dances which they will then much easier pick up.

Background on the School: On Andre's returned from Amsterdam, where he attended the La Pachanga Dance school in 1999, 2000, he could not find any suited school in Cape Town where he could further his Salsa dancing. He subsequently started the La Salsa Dance school in 2001 and has taught many "La-Salsaners" how to salsa since then.
